Eco & Solidarity

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INVOLVEMENT AND GENEROSITY !

AN ECO RESPONSIBLE ORGANIZATION

A tight collaboration with the countries we cross

  • Far from the aerodromes, the AFRICA ECO RACE bivouac are set in breath-taking locations, in the heart of savage nature and authentic environment. All locations are carefully chosen with the welcoming countries in order to limit the impact on nature and local population.
  • The local economy is involved at a maximum. The bivouacs are prepared and cleaned by local providers; the rubbish which can be incinerated is, the oil is recovered, the bins are brought to the nearest treatment centre.
  • The route is chosen in close collaboration with the local authorities in order to avoid the « protected » zones such as national parcs.

Use of renewable energies

  • The AFRICA ECO RACE clearly shows its determination to give sustainable development a real place in its daily race organisation thanks to several eco responsible actions focused on individual and collective “ecological” awareness.
  • Some of the organization vehicles are equipped of solar panels in order to use the energy accumulated all day for their daily tasks without using a generator.

SUSTAINABLE PROJECTS

  • « Plant over a million trees on 2000 acres around the city of Nouakchott ». It’s the challenge that the Mauritanian capital undertook in 2015. The objective is to block the invasive sand and marine incursions. 2000 acres in 4 years with 500 acres per year.
  • The AFRICA ECO RACE has participated several years in the planting of trees in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital. Several thousand Eucalyptus were planted Avenue Gamal Abdel Nasser right to the beach and towards the ports, where used to be broken trees due to the renovation.
  • With the help of the competitors, the AFRICA ECO RACE delivered and set up an autonomous functioning solar plant, which was made available for the « KHAIMA DES PETITS » school in Nouakchott.

« ENERGY OF HOPE » & « ECO-PARTICIPATION »

  • In 2017, the AFRICA ECO RACE decided to partner up with the AMADE by collaborating on the “ENERGY OF HOPE” project which has two ecological and educational goals by providing children who attend class at schools in remote areas, solar lamps. These schools, which we pass through during our adventure, are not provided with electricity.

These lamps allow the children to :

         - Securely return to their home when sundown
         - Use for the whole family at home
         - Study almost 4h more per day
       - To replace the petrol lamps which are one of the main cause of pollution and mortality in their homes

In 2020, close to 500 lamps were distributed in Mauritania, in the region of Tidjikdja and over  2500 lamps since the creation of the project.

  • The annual use of these lamps, 5 days out of 7, saves 200kg of CO2
    - The 500 lamps donated in 2020 represent therefore 100 000kg of CO2,
    - By combining all the lamps provided since the beginning of the project, it represents no less than 500 000kg of CO2 saved from the air.
  • Since 2020, the ECO-PARTICIPATION enabled us to finance the entire lamp providing for a total of 11 000€. The ECO PARTICIPATION is a participative financing which involves all the actors of the AFRICA ECO RACE: Competitors, Organisations, Providers.

ECO RESPONSABLE COMPETITORS

Ambitious projects of a few competitors enrolled in the EXPERIMENTAL category which is a huge challenge and a true projection into the future.

  • Arnaud JACQUART, raced on a 100% electric motorbike on the base of a Yamaha, without using one liter of fuel and by recharging his batteries at the bivouac by using solar panel energy.
  • The LATVIA team with an electrically powered car based on a hybrid Oscar EO.
  • André LENOBLE with a Yamaha motorbike equipped with a solar panel which enabled him to limit the use of his engine alternator and reduce the production of CO2.
  • Willy JOBARD on his ZONGSHEN 450 HYBRID2 hybrid motorbike fuelled with water. This system enabled to seriously improve the engine use as well as lowering significantly the consumption and limit the CO2 in the air. Also, Willy JOBARD used a bio ethanol fuel transported during the entire race by the AFRICA ECO RACE organisation.
  • The Team KAMAZ MASTER with their hybrid truck using a gas combining methane and gasoline. The objective was to prove the possibility of using a natural gas as fuel.

A UNITED RALLY

The tradition of African rallies is to bring all the support we can to help the welcoming countries and their populations.

Since its creation, approximately 30% of the competitors bring their support or do donations which our distributed by the organisation.
Thanks to this, numerous projects were undertaken during the crossing of the Africa Eco Race to help out with associations, schools or other entities such as:

  • MEONI Foundation
  • AMADE
  • Pilot Village
  • PIKINE Hospital
  • « Khaïma des Petits »
  • Home for the Handicaps of Sokone
  • Patronage Cardiac Surgery
  • Association Heart and Health
  • « Vaincre la Mucoviscidose »
  • « Myopathie de Duchenne »

And so many others …
